WHMIS Training
In compliance with section 29 of the Hazardous Products Information Regulation, Université Laval offers online training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
The training is compulsory for members of the university community who are likely to be exposed to hazardous products in the course of their work:
- Université Laval employees
- Members of research teams affiliated with Université Laval (interns, postdoctoral researchers, members of affiliated research centres in some hospitals in the Québec City area)
The training may be required to finalize your employment contract with Université Laval.
Register
If you have a ULaval ID (IDUL)
- Send your IDUL to simdut@ssp.ulaval.ca (if you want to take the training in English, please say so).
- Follow the instructions sent to your ulaval.ca address.
If you do not have a ULaval ID (IDUL)
If you are an intern or a staff member at an affiliated hospital research centre without an IDUL, you must apply for a temporary IDUL.
- Fill out the temporary ID form (XLS) and send it to simdut@ssp.ulaval.ca with a message briefly explaining your affiliation with Université Laval (if you want to take the training in English, please say so).
- Follow the instructions sent to the email address you provided on your form.
Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email.
You will then receive an email from monPortail with "Participant pour le site Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)" as the subject line.
If you do not receive the monPortail email to access the training
Check the junk folder associated with your ulaval.ca email address or the address you used to request your temporary IDUL.
If you cannot find the email containing the instructions, follow the procedure that corresponds to your situation:
If you have an IDUL
Try to access the training through monPortail.
If you are unable to access the training, please report the problem to simdut@ssp.ulaval.ca.
If you do not have an IDUL
Report the problem to simdut@ssp.ulaval.ca.
The training
- Once you have access to the training, you will have 14 days to finish it.
(If you are unable to finish the training within the set 14-day period, please contact simdut@ssp.ulaval.ca to explain the situation and request an extension.) - The training takes approximately 120 minutes.
Criteria for success
You must pass 2 evaluations to obtain a training certificate. You have 3 attempts for each evaluation. If your email address on monPortail is valid, your result will appear on the screen after each attempt.
If you fail
If you fail the evaluations, please report the problem to simdut@ssp.ulaval.ca and request an additional attempt.
Training attestation
If you have an IDUL
A training attestation will be added to your PeopleSoft HR file automatically approximately 3 business days after you successfully complete the training.
Please note that no certificate will be issued, and the evaluation result will not appear on any student transcript.
If you do not have an IDUL
Your result will be recorded in the register that can only be accessed by the relevant units, faculties, departments, and affiliated centres.
Please note that no certificate will be issued.
Checking the attestation in your file
As needed, units, faculties, departments, and services can check whether there is a training attestation in your PeopleSoft HR file:
- for individuals:
Menu principal > Perfectionnement effectif > Gestion profils > Profils > Profils personnes - for all unit staff:
Menu principal > Outil production rapports > Interrogations > Visualisation interrogations: rechercher le rapport UL_DCT_SIMDUT
If you used a temporary IDUL to take the training despite having an IDUL, or if an IDUL has been assigned to you since that time, your training attestation will not appear in the file linked to your IDUL. To rectify the situation, send your name and file number to simdut@ssp.ulaval.ca along with an explanation of your situation.
Training renewal
The training must be renewed every 5 years. However, you can register at any time if you want to update your knowledge before the deadline.
Training received from another employer
Some people may have taken WHMIS training at another workplace or university. However, Université Laval cannot recognize any training equivalence, since emergency procedures differ from one workplace to another.
Furthermore, the Santé et sécurité pour ingénieur III (GMN-2902) class cannot replace this training.
